Deciding to get a meal while we were in Laurel, Mississippi, turned out to be a scrumptious idea. We discovered Pearl’s Diner on Magnolia Street while exploring downtown, and it turns out that this eatery is not just any old café.

Fans of hit HGTV show Home Town will remember Miss Pearl from the Campbell House Episode, from February 2018. After watching, many folks fell in love with Miss Pearl, a strong and honest black woman, in her 70s, who ran the Pearl Diner downtown.

Longing for some southern comfort food we could not resist checking out the hearty and delicious food at Pearl’s. When you walk in the door you are greeted by the staff with a hearty “Welcome to the Pearl”.

Situated in an old jewelry store with period octagonal tile floor, you will find that Pearl’s Diner is not very large, but warm and comfortable, especially on a chilly December day.

The menu is simply posted on the wall. Chicken, fried or baked, pork chops or ribs, along with the traditional southern sides of turnip greens, black eyed pea’s, cheesy macaroni, and delicious cornbread all highlight the menu. The sweet tea was good, and the banana pudding was memorable.

Pearl’s son was among the attentive waitstaff, working the floor, keeping Miss Pearl’s restaurant moving and tidy. Turns out this is a great stop for a particularly good meal in the quaint little town of Laurel, Mississippi. So say hello to Miss Pearl and her crew next time your traveling down I-59.
